This is a reading comprehension activity. The reading covers three pages with a word count (including title) of 648 words. The topic relates to Epiphany, i.e. what it means and some of the countries that celebrate this Christian festival. There are 17 questions and tasks for students to do and they include finding evidence in the text, spelling, grammar and word work.
Students read the first two pages and then as additional work they can go straight onto reading page three with additional activities.
To begin the lesson, find out what students know about Epiphany and how it relates to the Christmas story before handing out the reading comprehension.
You can use this resource for guided reading.

Christmas activities and worksheets to help younger children learn about the birth of Jesus: Read, write, colour, sequence story, match up and word searches.
Content:
• Read, Trace, Colour Worksheets (x10) – Children read and trace over the sentence and then colour in.
Optional: You can make a booklet for each child by stapling the edges.
• Follow the Path Activity (x2) – Children use a crayon at the start of the pathway. They can use different colours to make a rainbow path.

The theme is ‘forgiveness’ based on The Parable of the Lost Son.
Learning Objective: To understand what forgiveness means.
Children are asked why we should say ‘sorry’ and understand the meaning of forgiveness and understanding.
The children are asked about their own experience of getting hurt and wanting that person to say sorry and what it feels like if they don’t apologize.
They are taken through the story and asked questions along the way.

The presentation describes myths and legends and that sometimes myths and legends overlaps. Children learn about some of the mythical stories that are passed down from one generation to the next, e.g. why the leek and the dragon are symbols of Wales and the miracles St David carried out, e.g. making the blind see, why David is standing on a hill with a dove on his shoulder, the legend of the boy who tried to steal pigeons, the legend of the corpse candle.
Listening and speaking during the presentation.
The flexible lesson plan guides you through the presentation or you can just play the presentation which children interact with.
Differentiated gap-filling worksheets:
Worksheet 1 - Children use the words in the box to fill in the gaps.
Worksheets A and B: - Children work in twos and collaborate to complete their worksheet as each child has information the other children needs.
There is a teacher’s copy for the worksheets A and B.
Early finishers - During the presentation the children are given the opportunity to retell one or two of the legends they like best which they oral retell to the class.

This resource is a 1 hour lesson on The Good Samaritan parable.
Aimed at: Keystage 1/Lower KS2.
Content:
- PowerPoint Presentation (23 Slides) - Contains the parable and whole class activities and Plenary. Children and listen and interact with the story - listening and speaking.
Recap comprehension questions at the end of the parable in preparation for children to do independent work.
- Lesson Plan (3 pages) with Learning Objectives and success criteria. The PowerPoint Slides are referred to in the lesson plan. There is a starter activity, main lesson and a plenary session.
- Differentiated Worksheets
Worksheet 1 and Worksheet 1a, 1b and 1c - these are cut and paste activities. The length of the paragraphs are different on each sheet. Children read the four strips of paragraphs that relate to the pictures. They cut out the paragraphs and glue under the correct pictures.

The legend of St. George the dragon-slayer is on PowerPoint.
The Presentation includes whole class activities and comprehension questions.
Children are encouraged to participate in discussion about the story and check their understanding.
The second PowerPoint Presentation explains what mythical stories are and why they were told (6 Slides).
The third PowerPoint Presentation is on different dragons for whole class activity and to prepare children for their worksheet activity.

Flexible detailed lesson plans covering 3 lessons (includes learning objectives and plenaries). Each PowerPoint slide is referred to in the lesson plans.
